Dr. Matthew Coates, FACS is a board certified general surgeon. He studied molecular and cell biology at the University of California at Berkeley as an undergraduate and then attended medical school at the University of Sydney in Australia. He completed his residency training in general surgery at San Joaquin General Hospital. His bariatric scope of practice includes laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic loop duodenal switch, and laparoscopic standard duodenal switch. Along with bariatric Dr. Coates also performs general surgery procedures including but not limited to hernia repair, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and laparoscopic colon resection. Dr. Coates is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a candidate member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASM8S), and a member of the Stanislaus Medical Society. In addition, Dr. Coates has interests in other minimally invasive abdominal surgeries, trauma and critical care.

Dr. Patrick Coates is a board certified general surgeon. He graduated from medical school at Autonomous University of Guadalajara in 1978. Dr. Coates completed his general surgery residency through the University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco’s Fresno-Central San Joaquin Valley Medical Education Program at Valley Medical Center in Fresno. Dr. Coates has extensive experience in general and weight loss surgery. His bariatric scope of practice includes laparoscopic gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, revision and duodenal switch surgeries.

Dr. Coates has more than seven years of experience performing weight loss surgery. Dr. Coates is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), American College of Surgery and the Stanislaus Medical Society.

Dr. Antonio Coirin is a board certified general surgeon and has held numerous positions related to bariatric surgery. Dr. Coirin served as the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. He attended medical school at University of California, Davis and completed his residency in General Surgery at San Joaquin General Hospital in Stockton, California.

Dr. Coirin is part of multiple professional associations including the American Medical Association, California Medical Association, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Bariatric Surgeons and the International Federation of the Surgery of Obesity.

Andy Huber

General Surgeon

Andy Huber, MD is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in bariatric surgery. He is coming from his Advanced GI/MinimaIIy invasive surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Before his fellowship he had completed his general surgery training at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, CA. He grew up in Nebraska and completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He then went to medical school in Omaha, NE at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. His bariatric scope of practice includes laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery. Along with bariatrics Dr. Huber performs general surgery procedures including but not limited to hernia repair, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, spleenectomy, and laparoscopic small bowel and colon surgery. Dr. Huber is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.

Erin Bashaw

Erin Bashaw, DNP, RN NE-BC

Bariatrics Coordinator

Erin graduated in 2004 with a Bachelors Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN) along with a certificate in Public Health Nursing (PHN) from California State University, Hayward. In 2008, she completed a Masters in Nursing Science (MSN) from California State University, Dominquez Hills and in 2011 finished a Doctorate in Nursing Practice with a special focus in Health Systems Leadership from the University of San Francisco. Erin guides and encourages participants through the Weight Loss Program. Erin hosts the monthly support group, the bi-monthly weight loss surgery class and the monthly weight loss surgery seminar.

Carie Wolf, MSN, BSN, RN

Bariatric Surgery Program Coordinator

Carie graduated in 1992 with an Associate of Science in Nursing (ADN) from Modesto Junior College. In 2014, she completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) from University of Texas, Arlington, and in 2017 completed a Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from American Sentinel University with a specialty in Leadership and Management. She began working with our Surgical Weight Loss program in 2017. Carie provides support and encouragement to the participants and is committed to making sure that every patient is prepared for surgery and receives the highest level of care throughout their journey. Carie also hosts the monthly support group and the bi-monthly weight loss surgery class.
